Joe McKenzie Has Stolen Your Cat

Somewhat of a writer obsessed with politics, history and camomile tea.

The District 6 Museum in Cape Town commemorates the destruction of a mixed race neighbourhood under apartheid. The museum is housed in the old Methodist Church, one of the few original buildings in the District (the government refused to bulldoze places of worship), and the centers around a street-map of the area with handwritten notes from its former residents.

When I was in South Africa I noticed that maps were a common way to express apartheid, the geographic boundaries represented in maps are an accessible way to understand the extraordinary divisions of a society that was premised on the separation of people by race.
